S.O.A.P. John 1: 19-36

 

Scripture

John the Baptist Denies Being the Messiah

¹⁹ Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders^[a] in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. ²⁰ He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”
²¹ They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”
He said, “I am not.”
“Are you the Prophet?”
He answered, “No.”
²² Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
²³ John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”^[b]
24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent ²⁵ questioned him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
²⁶ “I baptize with^[c] water,” John replied, “but among you stands one you do not know. ²⁷ He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”
²⁸ This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

John Testifies About Jesus

²⁹ The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! ³⁰ This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ³¹ I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”
³² Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. ³³ And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ ³⁴ I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”^[d]

John’s Disciples Follow Jesus

³⁵ The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. ³⁶ When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”

Observation
 John was informing those round him that he was a witness for he who was to come. Just as we are to live in such a way that others see us as representation of Christ.
Application
 We should live our lives as an example of Christ. Others should see such an example in our lives that Christ is revealed in all we do and say. We can never live up to Christ, we are not worthy of him or his baptism he gives us.
Prayer 

I thank you Lord that you revealed yourself to the world through one such as John. Who did not take any credit for his calling but made sure as to let the world know that he was not worthy of anything but was a witness as to who you are and who you would be to the world. Thank you for your baptism of the Holy Spirit. Help me to be a witness for you to all you place in my life, I may not be placed before the world to witness for you,but I am placed in a place wgere you want me to be and I Thank you for trusting me where you have placed me.

S.O.A.P. John1: 14-18

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”)

16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.

17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. 


 Observation

The Word has always been, even before time the Word existed. The Word is the bringer of Grace to cover us seeing as we cannot fulfill the law given to Moses by the Word.

 Application

I know that without the Word to bring Grace, I would be under the law and would fail. There would be no hope for myself, but since the Word communes with God and has made a covering for my sins. Now God can see me through the Word as complete in him.
 
Prayer

Thank you Lord for your Grace. Without your grace to work in my life I would be already condemned. I thank you that your very Word is who you are, by reading the written Word I am reading you, and you will reveal yourself to me through my diligence of searching your Word.

Observation

We as John are witnesses of the Light. We know the light and are to let it shine through us so that the world can see the light. The world goes around as if wearing blinders and in the dark, even though the light created us to recognize the light we don't acknowledge the light.


Application

I am to recognize the light and receive the light as it is, by doing this I will be given the right to be a child of God. Born of God not a natural physical birth but a Spiritual birth of the heart and soul. 

Prayer

Thank you Lord for choosing me to reveal yourself to. Thank you for allowing me to see the light for what it is. Your light has shown into my life and helped me to see that I have been in the darkness. I acknowledge that you are the light of the world and thank you for calling me to be your son. 
  

SOAP John 1: 1-5

Scripture

Observation

The Word is alive. He exists with and in God. The Word is the creator, the designer, the idea man. The Word is light revealing everything around us as to whether it is good or bad. The Word is the very existence of life with out the Word life would not be.

Application


My very existence is because of the Word. Life comes from the Word and being that we are made in the image of God, that means we are in the image of the very Word itself. Which means we are the light of the world and the life unto the world and we have the ability to create (invent that is and progress as God allows us).

Prayer

Thank you Lord for becoming flesh and lighting the way for me. Your very touch within me has allowed me to have a skill, as an auto mechanic specializing as I do in certain areas. You have shown a light many times into certain ares to reveal to me how to perform certain tasks. I am who I am to be at this time in my life. But the Word refuses to leave me there because he sees me as a finished product.
