Delight yourself in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. ~ Psalm 37:4,5
The other day I was thinking hard about this passage. I was thinking that what is happening in my life is not my hearts desire. I mean haven't I gone to church and served God, haven't I raised my children to know who God is, I feel as if I have been doing the right things for the most part.
The more I thought about it I realized that my motives were selfish, I was doing just enough to get by, not truly committing myself fully to God. I wasn't trusting him, or delighting myself in him.
I asked God to forgive me and help me to get things right with him, and he answered me with some interesting insights about this passage.
He said to me "I (God) will give you the desires of your heart" I said yes I understand. He said "I am not finished do not interrupt me". now listen. I will give you the desires of your heart. That means any desire you have that is for personal things is not from me. Your desire is from your brain. You want Josh to be free from his situation and to grow up, get a job, find a good woman get married and have a family. So you can be a Grandparent. Selfish reasoning.
The desire I give you is from your heart. That know matter what Happens to Josh or Nic or Joe that they ultimately serve the Lord with all they have inside them and that one day they stand before me and hear "Well done, enter in, great is you reward".
That is God giving you a desire in your heart. That is what it means when God says he WILL GIVE YOU THE DESIRES OF YOUR HEART they are his desires placed in you. They are not of yourself, for we think with a human mind, and selfish wishes.
